What makes garage doors in Lancaster, CA a little different
The Antelope Valley climate is brutal on garage doors — 110°F summer days, 25°F winter nights, and the wind. Specifically the wind. Lancaster sits in a high-desert wind corridor, and 35-50 mph gusts are common from October through April. That wind does three things to garage doors:
- It pulls weather seals out — bottom seals harden in the sun, crack in the cold, and then a windy day rips them off. We replace bottom seals constantly in Lancaster.
- It loads horizontal panels. A 16-ft wide door takes a real beating in 40+ mph winds. If your panels are flexing visibly when the door is closed, you need a horizontal strut added — we do this in 30 minutes.
- It blows dust into the photo-eye sensors. The little black sensors near the floor on each side. If your door won't close all of a sudden, 9 times out of 10 in Lancaster it's just dust on the sensor lens.
If you're new to Lancaster and your old door is from a non-desert climate, expect it to need more attention than it did wherever you came from. Joshua Tree dust + 100°F + 40 mph wind is not what most factory-spec garage doors were designed around.
